Captain's Day was a resounding success this year for Captain Alan Collins despite the testing weather conditions (20mm of rain on the day!). The competition was extremely well supported by members who were expertly welcomed on the first tee by the Captain himself, Jeff Corry and Mike Campbell and all were grateful for the refreshments served by volunteers at the 11th.

Captain Alan Collins thanks everyone who assisted in making the day such a success and joins us in congratulating Richard Nicholson who won the Captain's Day prize.

Mr Captain's Prize Medal is coming up on Tuesday and Mr Captain is looking forward to meeting and greeting the Ladies Section and awarding the prizes.

Ladies captain's Competition

Congratulations are in order for Brenda Chadwick who won last week's Lady Captain's Competition. Brenda continued the winning run with Anoo Gupta and Leslie Milne to win the Ladies' Stableford Team Competition with 67 points; well-done ladies!

Sunday's Didsbury Classic was very well attended and enjoyed much-improved weather after Saturday's rain. The day got off to a great start with coffee and sandwiches and it was great to see so many members and visitors enjoying the day; a big thank you to all who attended and made the day a great success. Congratulations to M. Tahir, T. Mahmood, A. Ali and F. Ashan from Castle Hawk Golf Club who won on a CPO with 86 points.

Great Greens!

Thanks to the great work of Head Green Keeper Rob and all the greens staff, greens committee and volunteers, the golf course is looking in fantastic condition despite the inclement weather and packed calendar. We have had many compliments from members and visitors and it seems our greens are 'immaculate' and the envy of many a club!

Coaching Success

It's been another very busy week for coaching and it's good to see that some new members are taking up lessons. A lot of players are getting back into the swing of it and results are getting better. A special mention must go to Dave Conville of Holdsworth Golf Club again for winning his second board competition with an 82 - 17 - nett 65! Thank you for bringing a team to our Didsbury Classic too.

If you want to get into the winning circle or just get your enjoyment for the game back, please contact the pro shop to arrange a lesson.

It is pleasing to report that Kevin’s Ladies and Junior programs have started successfully. With the support of the Didsbury membership and friends, we hope to grow and cultivate these programs as time goes on. There is space in some of these programs for anyone that feels like they missed out and would like some group tuition. Feel free to provide, any and all, feedback with our programs as we will continue to evolve existing programs and provide new and different opportunities for instruction for all golfers.

Kevin's Tip of the Week

The way we grip the club has a tremendous influence on face. The face of the club helps to dictate the direction of the golf ball. To determine the correct grip for each individual; it takes an understanding of one’s swing in combination with desired ball flight. The one constant should be that the hands work together to produce either an open, square, or closed clubface. If the hands are working together, you will have a more predictable face at the moment of truth: impact. That will result in a more consistent outcome with ball flight and therefore provide more consistency for the player.

Player Profile

Lady Captain Louise Biddlecombe

Lady Captain Louise has been playing golf for 10 years and has a long-standing family connection with Didsbury Golf Club. She was first introduced to the club in 2010 by her mother-in-law, Moira Bidddlecombe. She fell in love with both the game and the Ladies Section and hasn't looked back since. Her handicap has improved dramatically over the past couple of years and dropped down to 14.

Louise is passionate about encouraging new lady players and welcoming new lady members to the club. She has been delighted to see some of our new members compete in recent competitions. She thoroughly enjoyed teaming up with new member Sharon Volke along with Trisha Williams in Tuesday's Ladies Stableford Team Competition and came 2nd place.

Louise has lots of plans for the Ladies Section and is looking forward to continuing her Lady Captaincy in 2021 so watch this space!

Golf on Tour

Tiger returns!

Tiger Woods made his return to golf at The Memorial Tournament, playing at a Jack Nicklaus-designed course alongside Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka. That’s pretty cool!

Muirfield Village, better known as Jack’s Place, proved to be a brutal beast. 3-over was enough to make the cut and even-par enough for a share of 10th, with even the world’s best notching double and triple bogeys.

Jon Rahm became just the second Spaniard in history, behind Seve Ballesteros, to become World No.1 after a convincing victory in Ohio. Despite going +5 on Sunday’s back-nine, Rahm cruised to a three-stroke win.

Rahm’s final score of -9 will not jump off the page of PGA Tour winners, but numbers could never tell the story of just how much Jack’s Place demanded.
