Congratulations to David Moore of Bramhall Golf Club, winning the men's individual Stableford on Saturday 15th August with 41 points.

David was a pupil of James whilst he was at Northenden and took his first session back at Didsbury prior to his win!

Furthermore, David Conville, a pupil of James for the last 4 years, was Captain’s Day winner at Holdsworth Golf Club last Saturday with an 81-14-67 nett.

Coaching Programs

We still have a lot of programs to sign up for and we are striving to provide a little something for everyone. Kevin is continuing to grow our ladies and junior programs and is due to begin our beginner’s programs for ladies and men. Start dates for these programs are approaching rapidly so do not hesitate to sign up.

Be sure to look out for some more of Kevin’s one-day clinics in the next newsletter. Our goal is to increase your golf IQ and help you navigate the sea of information out there about the golf swing.

Programs to Sign Up For:

Ladies Clinics: - Continued development of your game. Getting more in-depth about the different aspects of the swing.

Sundays at 9:30-10:30am – August 23, 30, September 6, 13, 20 (Cost £75 per Person)

Juniors Clinics: - Whether your junior is just starting out or preparing to play on the course, we have a development program for you. Get them started early in a game that they can appreciate for a lifetime.

Par Level - Sundays at 2-3pm – August 23, 30, September 6, 13, 20 (Cost £75 Per Person)

Birdie Level - Sundays at 3-4pm – August 23, 30, September 6, 13, 20 (Cost £75 Per Person)

Beginner Programs:

Ladies Give Golf A Go - Targeted to ladies interested in the game of golf who could carve out some time on the weekend to give it a try.

Sundays at 11AM- 12PM - August 23,30, September 6,13,20 (Cost £50 Per Person) - sign up here

Mixed Beginner Program- Targeted to men and women who might prefer a weekday in the evening, possibly after work.

Mondays at 6pm-7pm - August 31, September 7, 14, 21, 28 (Cost £50 Per Person).

Kevin’s Tip of the Week

This week’s tip applies to distance. Everyone, no matter how long, could benefit from hitting it further and have more consistent distance on their shots.

One of the biggest contributors to how far you are hitting the ball is how much in the centre of the face the ball is struck and how squarely the face is given its path to the golf ball. If you are looking to hit it further or would like those irons to go the same distance every time, be sure to see if your strikes are constantly in the middle of the face.

This can be easy to check. Get some tape or foot spray, anything that will mark when the ball is struck.

See if it is in the middle. If it isn’t, you are losing distance. If you see strikes that are consistent, expect your distance to be the same.

Staff Profile

Lisa, my wife and our pro shop manager, is absolutely loving her new role at Didsbury Golf Club. Lisa is new to the golfing world but has been able to draw on her previous roles and skillset to settle into the role.

Lisa’s first career of choice was teaching and after obtaining her university degree, Lisa started her teaching career and was a primary school teacher in Greater Manchester for 18 years.

After gaining 4 step-sons, 4 years ago, Lisa decided that a change of career that would allow her to spend more quality time with our 6 boys was in order. She created a children’s party business and is now the proud owner of a successful company.

Lisa loves to cook and entertain family and friends, travel, enjoys meals out and is also an avid reader and crime documentary watcher.

She’s promised me that she’ll learn to play golf in the future when she has more time on her hands but I’m not sure when exactly that will be!

In the meantime, it’s great to have her in the pro shop and we’re proud of our family business.

It's about to get interesting

The Northern Trust begins this week, marking the start of the FedEx Cup playoffs on the PGA Tour. The event, held at TPC Boston, will be followed by the BMW Championship before culminating in Atlanta at The Tour Championship. It’s a hell of a payday for the winner ($15 million), as well as a lot of prestige; joining a list of golf’s modern greats.

Justin Thomas has already wrapped-up the $2 million Wyndham Rewards prize for the best regular-season player, with PGA Championship winner Collin Morikawa finishing second. Thomas will be hoping to join Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods as the only players to win the FedEx Cup multiple times (both have won it twice), but it won’t be easy.

It's great to see

Golf is going through a great period at the moment with lots of people taking the chance to play. One thing you'll notice is the number of golfers using an electric trolley to carry their clubs around the course, so we thought we'd highlight a couple of our favourites in this week's email.
