A Fitting Tribute We are extremely proud that one our esteemed members has been honoured for his years of service in another sport. John Walker, president of Didsbury Golf Club in 2010, has been an integral part of Wythenshawe Amateur Football Club for 70 years, holding almost every position at the club in this time and is now President of the club. As a tribute for his many years of service and to thank him for the fantastic work he has done and continues to do, the main stand at Hollyedge Park has been named after him. The 'John Walker' stand was unveiled to John and his family on Sunday 16th August and we extend our warm congratulations to John.

The entry fee is £60 per team of 4, with best man and best lady to score.
To enter online, it would help if golfers have their Central Database of Handicaps (CDH) number, but this is not essential.

NEW TaylorMade clubs now in stock Didsbury GC pro shop is lucky enough to be one of the first in the country to receive the brand new TaylorMade SIM UDI and Spider FCG putter! Both are set to be extremely popular and offer the latest technology to support your game. Call in to the pro shop to take a look and remember of course that we offer our price match promise to ensure that you get the best possible price.
TaylorMade Spider FCG Putter
“Looks like a mallet, feels like a blade, forgives like a Spider”. Perfect for golfers who have an arced putting stroke and like a firmer, more solid feel, the Spider FCG makes it possible for players to get the same feel and balance they expect from a blade with the more forgiving results of a mallet.
TaylorMade SIM UDI
"Shaped for versatility, inspired by tour". The SIM UDI is a critical part of your set to address the space between your longest playable iron and shortest fairway wood. With the new SIM UDI, TaylorMade brings you the confidence to take on those long approach shots and the versatility to attack off the tee. For those who prefer long irons to hybrids or want another option to use from the tee, the TaylorMade SIM UDI delivers powerful ball flights and impressive levels of forgiveness.

One-Day clinics
As advertised, we have two one-day clinics to sign up for with Kevin, which are a great way to improve your golf knowledge and pick a few things that can have a positive effect on your game. Whether you play for fun, a leisurely walk, or for the thrill of competition; these classes will provide you will the better understanding of your swing and factors that can help you make changes for the better. Programs to Sign Up For:
Understanding Setup
Targeted to anyone who is interested in understanding grip, stance, posture, alignment, and club design. These factors help to develop our golf swing for better or worse. Understanding these basics will enable you to improve or at least understand your personal golf swing. Sunday, September 13th at 11AM- 12PM - (Cost £20 Per Person)
How to improve distance
Targeted to anyone looking to find a few more yards on the golf course. In this session, we will determine the factors that equate to distance. We will show how these factors can be applied to provide more distance to you. Monday, September 14th at 6PM-7PM - (Cost £20 Per Person) |

Kevin's Tip of the Week
Keep the hands and arms loose and swinging. Tension in the hands and arms are a huge contributor to loss of distance as well as a breakdown of those good angles that you hopefully set at address. That breakdown as you try to manoeuvre your hand and arms to the ball with tension, will result in less balance and most likely a poorer strike on the ball; or if nothing else, a less consistent strike. There is a reason we call it a golf swing and not a golf manoeuvre. The hands and arms are meant to be swinging not manipulated through tension.

Margaret Lloyd
Margaret has been Honorary Secretary at Didsbury Golf Club for the past three years. Her job as Secretary is varied and busy.
Apart from writing minutes, attending meetings, dealing with Member queries, the job involves becoming involved in development plans for the Club and working towards a sound future for the Club. It is some 40 years since Margaret began playing golf at Romiley Golf Club. Working full time as a Secondary School Headteacher meant that golf had to fit in with work commitments before she retired.
Consequently, she probably only played 15 times a year or so at Romiley. Margaret moved from Romiley to Styal and was a member there for three years before joining Didsbury sixteen years ago when, at 60, she retired.
She has been extremely happy at Didsbury and thoroughly enjoyed the friendship and fun which is a vital part of the Ladies Section. She has also enjoyed the open and equal relationships that exist between all sections of the Club here at Didsbury. |
|
After retiring from teaching Margaret joined the Board of a Housing Association for nine years and became Chair. She also took on the role of Project Leader for a Community Project at the Church she attends in Wythenshawe, a position she still holds now. A major responsibility is to raise funds for the Community Group so you may see her driving a trailer loaded with furniture that has been donated to the Community work. She also became a member of the North West Complaints Officer’s Group for twelve years, investigating complaints made against Social Services. Margaret has served on Council at Didsbury previously to becoming Secretary. She has also served on the Ladies Committee and been Lady Captain 2015/16. Her handicap is 21 and her ambition is to get into the teens before she has to hang her clubs up! Margaret is a team member and enjoys the team matches and visiting new Courses. She also enjoys playing in Opens at a variety of Courses. The Mixed Section has always been supported and enjoyed by Margaret. She intends to play as long as she can and be a Didsbury stalwart as long as she can. Margaret has scored two holes in one, but she didn’t see either of them go in the hole. One was at Gatley Golf Course on a par 3 surrounded by high bunkers. The ball cleared the bunkers and when it could not be seen when arriving at the green, it was discovered in the hole. The second hole in one was at an Open at Eastham Lodge. Again a par 3 surrounded by high bunkers. The tee shot veered right, hit a tree and deflected greenward. A search eventually discovered the ball in the hole and the picture above captures this moment!
