Greens Work taking place this week
Just a reminder that greens work will be taking place next week so there are no competitions until next Saturday's Betterball Stableford. The course will still be open so book your tee time for social golf and check-in at the pro shop.
|
If you're new to the game or prefer a more casual arrangement, our new informal Sunday competitions could be just the thing!
Starting on Sunday 20th September all members are invited to join our new single stableford, full handicap competition.
Entry is just £3 per person. Just book your tee time as usual on the day's tee sheet and pay your fee in the pro shop (prize amounts will be determined by the number of entrants).
Good Luck!

More coaching success
It's fantastic to report more success for one of James' younger pupils: 15-year-old Marco won the Waterfront Junior Open on Sunday. An eagle at the par 5 saved the day and he also won the longest drive. Marco has decided to dedicate himself to golf by leaving his high school in order to join the Golf Scholars Programme.
We wish you every success Marco!
Lynn of Ringway Golf Club, won the second competition of her golfing career in this week's Super Vets Trophy with 45 Stableford points, winning by 8 points and reducing her handicap from 39 to 33.
Congratulations Lynn!

Kevin's One Day Clinics Last chance to sign up for Kevin's one-day clinics. Be sure to get a better understanding on how your setup can affect your swing and I know we can all use more distance. There are spots available in both so be sure to sign up. Understanding Setup - Targeted to anyone who is interested in understanding grip, stance, posture, alignment, and club design. These factors help to develop our golf swing for better or worse. Understanding these basics will enable you to improve or at least understand your personal golf swing. Sunday, September 13th at 11AM- 12PM - (Cost £20 Per Person) How to Improve Distance - Targeted to anyone looking to find a few more yards on the golf course. In this session, we will determine the factors that equate to distance. We will show how these factors can be applied to provide more distance to you. Monday, September 14th at 6PM-7PM (Cost £20 Per Person)
As the off-season approaches, golfers have a great opportunity to better themselves for the next year. Do not wait for your new year's resolution to play better golf!
Kevin will also be putting together some winter programs to provide students with extensive packages to make those long-postponed swing changes. As Kevin plans to be actively teaching throughout the winter months, with greater use of the swing room, we can make those changes and make 2021 the best year for your golf game to date. Kevin plans to launch them in October, so keep an eye out for those promotions.
If you keep doing what you have always been doing, you will keep getting what you always have been getting!

James' Tip of the Week As the ground conditions get softer and the air gets heavier, challenge yourself to get every approach shot past the hole, generally most players come up short at this time of year and risk the 3 putts!
This exercise also makes a player more positive and helps them prepare their game for next season.

When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds When Ball Is Lost A ball is lost if not found in three minutes after the player or his or her caddie begins to search for it. If a ball is found in that time but it is uncertain whether it is the player’s ball: The player must promptly attempt to identify the ball and is allowed a reasonable time to do so, even if that happens after the three-minute search time has ended. This includes a reasonable time to get to the ball if the player is not where the ball is found. If the player does not identify his or her ball in that reasonable time, the ball is lost. |
When Ball Is Out of Bounds A ball at rest is out of bounds only when all of it is outside the boundary edge of the course. A ball is in bounds when any part of the ball: - Lies on or touches the ground or anything else (such as any natural or artificial object) inside the boundary edge, or
- Is above the boundary edge or any other part of the course.
A player may stand out of bounds to play a ball on the course. |
|
What to Do When Ball Is Lost or Out of Bounds If a ball is lost or out of bounds, the player must take stroke-and-distance relief by adding one penalty stroke and playing the original ball or another ball from where the previous stroke was made. For more information visit The R&A website. |
Barry Wynter Barry was born in Jamaica in 1943 and grew up on a subsistence farm where the family ate what they grew. As a boy, he enjoyed riding the family's horses, climbing trees and shooting at birds with his catapult! He went to his local primary school and at 16 went to college to do his O Levels. In 1962, when Barry was 18, he came to England and joined the Royal Air Force for a five-year term. During that time, he trained as a telegraphist and a heavy goods vehicle driver. Then, in 1967, he went to work in air traffic control at Manchester Airport, where he spent the next 36 years until his retirement in 2003. Barry has been married twice and raised six children with his second wife, who are all now grown up, and has five grandchildren. Cricket has been Barry's main hobby all his life. He started when he 10 years old at school, carried on in the RAF and at different standards of club level up until his mid-sixties. Barry got into golf in 1991 when a cricket friend introduced him to the game. He took Barry to Altrincham Driving Range, showed him the basics of stance, grip and swing and Barry has been hooked ever since. He joined Didsbury as five-day member in 1998 and 22 years later, he's still here! |
|
Barry has thoroughly enjoyed his time at Didsbury. The club is renowned for being friendly and inclusive and Barry sincerely hopes that the club can maintain that and take it into the future. Memorable moments for Barry over the years include: being a finalist in the mixed doubles, the summer fourballs twice and winning the Chairman's Cup with a nett 61 in 2013. Mostly though, Barry was proud and honoured to be President in 2015/2016 and now looks forward to being Captain in 2020/2021.

DJ wins big How does a $15 million payday sound to you? For playing golf? Dustin Johnson finally achieved one of the few things missing from his CV on Monday evening when he stepped off the 18th green at East Lake GC. Sadly, there were no fans to cheer him on, but DJ won the TOUR Championship and, as a result, the season-long FedEx Cup - the PGA Tour's order of merit. If ever there was a deserving winner, it’s a man who finished the season T2-1-2-1; a run that started at the PGA Championship. Seeing DJ back to his best makes for beautiful viewing. If you’d like to give your playing partners some better viewing on the course, why not book in for a lesson with a member of the team? |
