Clubhouse Changes As you will no doubt be aware, Greater Manchester will be moving into Tier 3 Covid Restrictions on Friday and as a result, the club will be changing the way the clubhouse is operated in order to comply with the new restrictions. Members will only be able to purchase an alcoholic drink as part of a substantial meal. We will be revamping our menu and operating fully as a restaurant/cafe. Members are more than welcome to use the clubhouse facilities for food and non-alcoholic drinks and will be able to come in to enjoy a tea/coffee or soft drink and a bacon butty for example. The clubhouse will be closed on Friday 24th October to allow the staff to set up the clubhouse in order to implement the new restrictions. The clubhouse will be open on Saturday 24th October & Sunday 25th October from 11am - 6pm. We will be experimenting with opening hours on a trial basis and the clubhouse hours for the week commencing 26th October will be confirmed on Monday. We very much look forward to continuing to welcome you to the clubhouse for food and drink and we rely on your support to ensure we can keep the clubhouse open and our staff working.

Kevin’s Teaching Corner
It's never too early to think about the Holidays. Kevin will be promoting his holiday pricing all the way to Christmas. If you think that someone special would like to see some improvement in golf, Kevin has the lesson packages you need with the discounted price that you want. Even if it is not for the holidays, take advantage of this great offer.
Kevin is still running a promotion for a winter assessment lesson. This will allow you to get an overview of what you are doing, as well as provide insight into how we can produce long-lasting change into next season. With this, I can put together a proposal to let you know what I believe it would take to make the necessary changes and provide a program to get us there. With a reduced cost to the normal hourly rate, there is no reason to pass on some professional help.
Kevin's junior program is ongoing, and we hope to continue it throughout the off season. You can get involved at any time and he has space in any of the classes listed below. Feel free to contact Kevin if you have any questions or if you know someone that might be interested. With these very small groups, he has the flexibility to create new groups or add to an existing group. This allows him to match up skill and age to maximise the student’s development as well as make it fun and exciting for the kids. Programs to Sign Up For:
Individual Lessons

Kevin's Tip of the Week Everyone wants to hit it straight; however few people do. Do you know how to achieve that ball flight? Many players do not. It requires a specific path and face to make the ball go straight. To hit it straight we need the face to be square to target or pointed in the direction of where you want to ball to go. That seems simple, however, that will not guarantee the ball going straight. That needs to happen in conjunction with the proper path. The path is the route the club head follows during the forward swing. For a straight ball flight, you will need to have an “inside to inside” path. Have the proper path and face and you will be able to hit the ball straight every time.
Below is a drill to help you understand the path and promote a more inside to inside path: - Place two shafts along the target line, making a long straight line to target.
- Place a ball just inside the shafts that point to target.
- Think of anything from the ball to you as inside and anything from the ball away from you as outside.
- Then, hit some shots swinging the club so the clubhead is not going outside of the stick line at any point. If you can do this, you are creating an inside to inside approach to the ball. If it crosses the line on the way to the ball you are coming from the outside. If it crosses the line after the ball you are coming from the inside.

Simon Wells
"I joined Didsbury around 6 years ago and am delighted to have recently joined the Committee. My initial remit is to look after the club's open competitions, along with Adele. Open competitions are an ideal way to showcase the course and club facilities at reasonable prices.
Ideally, this will lead to new members or indeed societies visiting DGC. I will of course keep a keen eye on course & clubhouse developments that enhance the DGC offering. I started playing golf in my teens in Weymouth, on the sunny south coast. Like most kids, my Dad got me into the game…as well as my love for West Ham Utd Football Club. I think I remain “The Only Hammer in the Village”,
I got to a handicap of 16 before (the usual story of) work, beer and girls curtailed my playing career somewhat.
I moved up to the Manchester Area in the late 80’s with work (I know I don’t look old enough!). I spent many happy years working in IT for a Leading High Street Bank.

My enthusiasm for golf was reignited through joining my work Golf Society. I played for 10 yrs at Peover GC (just outside Knutsford) before moving to Royal Didsbury. I am managing to hack round off a Handicap of 6 and, like most of you, look forward to seeing how the new World Handicap system changes this! I have managed to post a gross 72 & 73 this year (thanks to some long putts). My other highlights of this year were making a Hole in One (my 2nd) on the 11th at DGC and a 2 at the 8th. Both sweetly-struck 4 irons!! My two main golf ambitions remain: Get to 5 Hcap (Cat 1), and win a Board comp. I am recently retired so am able to indulge my passion for Travel, Music Gigs and Festivals. Highlights of which being: - Going to my first Glastonbury Festival (working for Oxfam)
- Visting Thailand/Cambodia (teaching English in a Cambodian School) and the Caribbean
- Cheering on England with the Barmy Army in Johannesburg, SA
I am committed to helping us progress and welcome any constructive feedback/ideas from any members."

When Your Ball or Ball-Marker Moves on Putting Green
There is no penalty if you, your opponent or another player in stroke play accidentally move your ball or ball-marker on the putting green. You must replace your ball on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) or place a ball-marker to mark that original spot. Exception - Your ball must be played as It lies when it begins to move during your backswing or stroke and the stroke is made.
|
If natural forces cause your ball on the putting green to move, where you must play from next depends on whether your ball had already been lifted and replaced on its original spot: Ball already lifted and replaced - Your ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated). Ball not already lifted and replaced - The ball must be played from its new spot.
