I'm sure we're all very disappointed that golf is on hold and the club has had to close it's doors this Thursday as the course is really taking shape and the forecast is looking far more settled, but we all understand how important it is to protect ourselves and one another and support our NHS.
We look forward to reopening in 4 weeks' time (fingers crossed!) and hope you all stay safe and well during this difficult time. We'll continue to send out our weekly newsletter as usual. Tip of the Week Now that we are in lockdown for 4 weeks, I have a great drill to help your putting.
The most important aspect of putting is distance control. One factor to distance control is centredness and squareness of contact. This is very overlooked when putting. For this drill, that can be done in the house, put 2 small rubber bands around the middle of the clubface. Allow for the width of the golf ball. Hit putts on a rug at a target. If you hit one of these rubber bands, you have clearly hit it off the toe or the heal of the club, which causes us to lose distance and possibly direction on those hits.
It might just be the difference between having to make a 2-foot or 7-foot putt, when putting from long distance! Hitting it in the centre of the face with the face square to target line, is a recipe for success, and this drill will help you to do that.
If you want to challenge yourself move the rubber bands closer together, lessening the margin of error.

Ball Becomes Cut or Cracked While Playing Hole If you reasonably believe that your ball has been cut or cracked while playing a hole, you may lift it to check.
First, you must mark the spot of the ball and then lift it without cleaning it (except on the putting green). If you lift your ball without having this reasonable belief, fail to mark the spot of the ball before lifting it, or clean it when not allowed, you get one penalty stroke. You may only substitute another ball (by replacing it on the original spot) if it can be clearly seen that your original ball is cut or cracked and this damage happened during the hole you are playing – but not if it is only scratched or scraped or its paint is only damaged or discoloured.

"My earliest memory of the game was when I used to live opposite Altrincham Golf Club as a young kid and used to go looking for lost balls and sell them to the players on the old island green and tee for extra pocket money. My introduction to the game properly came late on, and I only really took it up fully when I joined Didsbury Golf Club back in 2007. I'd played a few rounds here and there before, but didn't think a golf club membership was something I could afford in the years before joining the Club. I joined Didsbury after playing a couple of rounds with some members I knew back then who have since left. I've always liked the atmosphere around the club and found it very friendly without too many clicks and that's how I fell in with the crowd I play and socialise with now, with the banter being especially good. I ended up working in Sierra Leone between 2011 and 2013, so paid my subs every year with the intent of playing during my breaks back home, however the golf never materialised due to Zoie having a list of jobs for me every time I got back! I did get one round in at Freetown Golf Club, which was an experience in itself. My most memorable rounds would be when I won the 2nd Foundation medal in 2010 and holing the winning put on the 2nd extra hole to win the 2017 Summer Fourball with my playing partner Saj Baloch. |

My role at the Club is to offer Health and Safety Advice as I'm a Chartered Member of IOSH and a Health and Safety Advisor within the construction industry and I hope that the Club can get back to former glory's over the coming years. Apart from golf, I support the best and most successful team in Manchester, where I'm looking to get back to the Theatre of Dreams when the current restrictions are lifted as I have a season ticket and attended the games in Barcelona and Moscow when winning the European Cup! I'm also an avid F1 fan regularly attending Silverstone for the British GP to support McLaren and the British drivers. I also attend many music gigs and festivals with Glastonbury being a regular trip until recent years."

Augusta looms Masters week is an exciting time for any avid golfer. It's when we get to watch our favourite golfers battle it out on one of the most iconic courses in the world. Flowers in full bloom, an array of beautiful colours, and a course in pristine condition year-after-year. Augusta National is a special place, so we thought we'd run through some of the standout Masters memories ahead of next week's showdown.
Sunday Shifts In 1996, Greg Norman turned a six-stroke Sunday lead into a five-stroke loss to Nick Faldo. In 1978, Gary Player started the final round eight strokes behind before shooting the lowest-ever final round (64) at Augusta to claim the Green Jacket!
Fighting Spirit Tiger’s incredible 2019 comeback win springs to mind, but Ben Hogan recovered from a terrible car crash in 1949 to win The Masters by five strokes in 1953. Ben Crenshaw’s 1995 victory came in the same week as the funeral of long-time instructor Harvey Penick. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
