Following on from the women's first Major of the year last weekend, this week it's the men's turn as they tee it up at Augusta National for the second Masters Tournament in a matter of months. Player Profile

Patrick Marrow

Didsbury GC member, Patrick, was introduced to golf when he was very young by his granddad, who was an avid golfer and captain at Ashton In Makerfield Golf Club. He was a junior at Sandiway for three years until he left for university, and drifted away from playing.

Patrick joined Didsbury after a 15 year hiatus in 2019 as it’s a few minutes walk from his current house. He felt he needed to readdress his work/life balance and find an interest that improves his discipline physically and mentally as well as making new friends, of which he says he has been fortunate to do so through the club.

A highlight for Patrick was playing Turnberry & Lytham last year, albeit terribly for his standards, but the period where he essentially played every day for 9 weeks during the first lockdown was pretty great for him!

Patrick is the owner of a salon In Manchester City centre named: The Whitworth Street Creative Studio, a content creator for L'Oreal and a brand ambassador for Crazy Colour.

He enjoys visiting different cities and different restaurants with his girlfriend, Anna; loves his dog, Eric and he fills whatever time he has left investing in cryptocurrency (day trading) and reading. Patrick wouldn't say he has a 'role' in the club, but says he is always open to help out where he can and give advice, however tactlessly, when asked for it!

Patrick assisted in preparing the club for re-opening after lockdown and his contribution is greatly appreciated.

Augusta's in full bloom

Back in November, we watched a totally unique Masters unfold. Dustin Johnson broke the tournament record, DeChambeau called Augusta a ‘par-67’ opening with 70-74 and Rory went from 3-over on Thursday to 11-under on Sunday. Madness! So… More of the same?

Absolutely not! Augusta National will have its bite back, for one thing. The return to the usual April date feels like we’re welcoming back an old friend in the form of a brutal golf course. It’s trickier than ever to call a winner, but why not have a go anyway?

Mind the gap

If we asked you what club you hit 150 yards, you’d likely have an easy answer. However, when it comes to 100 yards and in, it all gets a little messy and unclear. The funny thing is, this is the part of the game where our scores are made and lost, so maybe we all need to focus a bit more time on getting it right?

Do you have any yardage gaps in your set?

To start with, make sure your wedges are evenly gapped.

What is gapping?
It’s the fun process where we make sure each club in your bag goes a specific distance and that there are even gaps between one club and the next. This is particularly helpful when it comes to your wedge system!

So, rather than having to try and manipulate your swing-length to hit the ball a certain yardage, let’s look at things a different way.

Instead, make a note of the distances you most commonly face on the golf course but don't have a club that matches up. Then, we can help find you a club that goes that distance. If this is something you'd be interested in, send us a message.
